Sicilian Sumac
Sumac is a native plant commonly found in the Mediterranean region. Its seeds are used as a spice, with an intense red colour and citrusy flavour. Historical accounts confirm its ancient use; in both Egypt and Greece, it was also used as a fabric dye. The Romans, instead, used it to prepare a tangy and refreshing drink. However, it was in the Middle Ages that it became more widespread in cooking, particularly in the Middle East. Indeed, it is excellent for seasoning vegetables, bean soups, and meat or fish main courses. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties also make this product a great support for one’s health.
